The book is half bound with a dark green, heavy duty, cloth body with a contrasting, best quality, green buckram and maroon Moroccan leather cover. Inside the covers are ornate marbled end papers. The body of the book begins with the Annual totals and moves into the shoot pages. The heavyweight pages are made from 200g Soperton which is made for use with either ball point or fountain pen. The pages have a traditional speckled edge. The book also contains a wide maroon page marker ribbon to mark the latest page in use. The front cover can be blocked for you in gold with the owners initials, name, or estate name.
This premium game book has over 100 pages for records with space for ten entries per page, giving the book space for over 1000 days of shooting. There are also five ‘Annual Total’ pages at the front. These ‘Annual Total’ pages allow for the accumulation of yearly totals for the various species, making it ideal for the use as a long standing estate records book.
The book is offered in two forms, one in an “English” format and the other in a “Scottish” format. The English format has 5 blank columns after the typical game species and the Scottish has only 3 blank columns with the addition of the two headings ‘Stags’ and ‘Hinds’.
The columns are arranged as follows: Date, Host / Property / Beat, Weather, Grouse, Pheasants, Grey Partridge, Red Leg Partridge, Woodcock, Pigeon, Mallard, Teal, Blank Columns, Number of Guns, Shots Fired, Party Total. On the opposing page are two columns, Guns and Comments, each with three lines. The top row of the left hand page is a carried forward row to keep the seasons total so far visible on each page.
Another interesting feature of these books is the double line that runs through most of the left hand page, the reason for this double line is to allow the owner of the book to record, the party’s daily score, and his or her own personal score on the line underneath should you wish to record those detail as well.
